Shakespeare in Business | 5 Phrases Applicable to Modern Business Smarts

Balancing creativity with the business side of our industry always keeps us on our toes and often inspiration is all around us, just begging to be recognized.  Who would think that the Bard would have words of wisdom for modern business?

"It is not in the Stars to hold our Destiny but in ourselves” (Julius Caesar)
  People often envy entrepreneurers who seem to have achieved success with little to no effort.  But when you really uncover the real story about the journey of the entrepreneurer, you will most likely discover that it was filled with failures and setbacks.  Instead of letting that stop them, they let it become part of their story, owned it and used it as fuel to become better and become what they are today.

“It is a tale…full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.” (Macbeth)
We all know this person - the one who is all talk, but no action.


“And oftentimes excusing of a fault doth make the fault the worse by the excuse.”  (King John)
Stop making excuses.  It only makes it worse.  If necessary, give a reason and move on and don't repeat the mistake or delay.

Don't forget to actually enjoy the "doing".  We often get so buried in being task-masters and getting through our to-do lists that we forget what originally inspired us to be in this business and enjoy the process.

 Think "small but mighty"!  No matter how small , good work and a business based on integrity, joy, and community throws its "light" far.  Don't forget to take time to acknowledge how far you've come and what you have achieved.
